Double Barrel Salute

Veterans Day - 2008

My maternal Grandfather: Clyde W. Kirkman (1915 - 1989). This photo is from WWII, 1945; my Grandfather is on the left and his buddy Joe Melka is on the right. The photo was made in April 1945, in Germany, with a simple box camera just before the meeting or link up at the Elbe River between the U.S. and Russian troops. My son Walker placing a flag on my Grandfather's grave on Memorial Day 2007 John McCain in Hanoi, North Vietnam: prisoner of war. This Veterans Day sees the country still at war. A huge Double Barreled Salute to all those men and women who are serving and have served in our armed forces. It's because of them that I...

The Scars to Prove it...

John McCain in Hanoi, North Vietnam: prisoner of war. People are clueless. People who are NOT clueless forget that fact. When Governor Palin stands up at a campaign stop and says that "there's only one man in this campaign who has actually fought for this country and that man is John McCain, and he has the scars to prove it", she needs to talk about what that statement means. Those of us who know assume that everyone else knows, but they don't. I even heard a commentator on a TV news program talk about McCain's age and his shuffling around during the second debate. She was clueless that this was not due to age but his torture and injuries...

Family with Down Syndrome Child Meets John McCain and Sarah Palin

Family with Down Syndrome Child Meets John McCain and Sarah Palin at a rally in Washington, Pennsylvania Family with Down Syndrome Child Meets John McCain and Sarah Palin at a rally in Washington, Pennsylvania You probably didn't see this on CNN or NBC, maybe not even Fox. I received this in an email that's going around about John McCain and Sarah Palin having an impromptu meeting with a family that came to a rally on September 9th. Turns out its true. Basically, a family with a five year old child with Down syndrome attended a rally in Washington, Pennsylvania and carried a sign saying "We Love Kids with Down Syndrome". As the McCain bus drove past them on the way in,...

John McCain "Fight with Me!" - Double Barreled Salute!

John McCain addressed the Republican National Convention tonight (9/4/2008) and gave the best speech I've heard him deliver. A few of my favorite quotes: "I'm not running for president because I think I'm blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save our country in its hour of need. My country saved me. My country saved me, and I cannot forget it. And I will fight for her for as long as I draw breath, so help me God." "The constant partisan rancor that stops us from solving these problems isn't a cause, it's a symptom. It's what happens when people go to Washington to work for themselves and not you." "Senator Obama wants our schools...

Sarah Palin - Double Barreled Salute!

A big Double Barreled Salute to Vice President Nominee Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin for her AWESOME speech last night (9/3/2008) at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. John McCain obviously made a great choice in selecting a running mate. If this is an example of his decision making process and ability then he's the man for the job of President of the United States and she's the woman to back him up as Vice President! My favorite quotes from her speech: "In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change." Talking about small town America: "They love their country,...

John McCain vs. Obama on Family, Marriage, Adoption...

I don't see eye to eye with John McCain on everything: I disagree with his stance on illegal immigration: I think he should be tougher. I agree with his commitment to securing our borders: if he can get it done. However, I give him a big, Double Barreled Salute for having the guts to put this statement on his web site: "The family represents the foundation of Western Civilization and civil society and John McCain believes the institution of marriage is a union between one man and one woman. It is only this definition that sufficiently recognizes the vital and unique role played by mothers and fathers in the raising of children, and the role of the family in...

Compromise, Hell! R.I.P Jesse Helms (October 18, 1921 - July 4, 2008)

Here's a big Double Barreled Salute to Senator Jesse Helms, who passed away this July 4th. What a fitting exit date for Jesse Helms: Independence Day! Thomas Jefferson and John Adams also died on Independence Day. Jesse Alexander Helms, Jr. was a 5 term United States Senator from North Carolina. A Republican. He served as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. I particularly like this quote from Jesse from a 1959 editorial: "Comprise, hell! If freedom is right and tyranny is wrong, why should those who believe in freedom treat it as if it were a roll of bologna to be bartered a slice at a time?" Jesse stood fast and true to his beliefs and allowed you...

Clint Eastwood vs. Spike Lee

Some things you just don't mess with... mama, Iwo Jima, Clint Eastwood, Andy Griffith, the facts about history, John Wayne, and Jonny Cash. Politically Correct and Clint Eastwood don't mesh. I'm glad. Thank God some things are stable and you can actually count on them. Some people, like Spike Lee, like to throw stones and stir things up. He's also a Barack Hussein Obama supporter so you know I don't like him too much. Clint Eastwood recently directed two movies, Letters from Iwo Jima and Flags of Our Fathers. It seems that Spike prompted reporters to ask Clint why he didn't include any blacks in these two films about Iwo Jima. Mr. Eastwood responded by saying that he was...

Teacher Puts Mexican Flag in Trash at High School

RUPERT, Idaho - A big Double Barreled Salute to Clint Straatman. Mr. Straatman is a physical ed. Teacher at Minico High School in Rupert. On 5/5/08, one of his students, Froylan Camelo, brought a Mexican flag to school for Cinco de Mayo. It seems that Mr. Straatman took the flag from Camelo as he was changing for gym class. As expected, there appears to be some discrepancy between the two sides of the story, but the flag ended up undamaged in the trash can. Camelo retrieved the flag from the gargage can at the end of the school day. Straatman was concerned that the Hispanic students who brought flags to school would create a situation that would escalate into a...

In election 2008, don't forget Angry White Man

The following was written by Gary Hubbell, a regular columnist for the Aspen Times Weekly in Aspen, CO. Here's the link to the original item that was in the February 9th, 2008 edition: http://www.aspentimes.com/article/2008198091324. I liked it so much I wanted to feature it here and give it a big, Double Barreled Salute! In Election 2008, Don't Forget Angry White Man There is a great amount of interest in this year's presidential elections, as everybody seems to recognize that our next president has to be a lot better than George Bush. The Democrats are riding high with two groundbreaking candidates -- a woman and an African-American -- while the conservative Republicans are in a quandary about their party's nod to...

Jose & Carlos

Jose and Carlos are panhandlers...... They panhandle on different areas of town. Carlos panhandles just as long as Jose but only collects 2 to 3 dollars every day. Jose brings home a suitcase FULL of $10 bills, drives a Mercedes, lives in a mortgage free house and has a lot of money to spend. Carlos says to Jose "I work just as long and hard as you do but how do you bring home a suitcase full of $10 bills every day?". Jose says, .... "Look at your sign, what does it say"? Carlos sign reads 'I have no work, a wife and 6 kids to support'." Jose says " No wonder you only get $2-3 dollars" Carlos says... "So...

I Am Your Worst Nightmare. I am a BAD American.

Below is the body of an email that is making it's way around the Intenet. The email says that the comedian George Carlin wrote this, but according to his web site, he did not. Regardless, I like it! I Am Your Worst Nightmare. I am a BAD American. I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some mid level governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican! I'm in touch with my feelings and I like it that way! I think owning a gun doesn't make you a killer; it makes you a smart American. I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized, and does not entitle you to anything. I believe...

9/11 Flag Flying and The American Flag

Please join us in this FLY THE FLAG campaign and PLEASE forward this email to others asking them to also forward it. We have a little less than one week and counting to get the word out all across this great land and into every community in the United States of America. THE PROGRAM IS THIS: On Monday, September 11th, 2006, an American flag should be displayed outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States. Every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag on this fifth anniversary of our country's worst tragedy. We do this in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends and loved ones who continue...

Minuteman Project caravan met by pro immigration protesters in the U.S. Capitol.

The Minuteman Project: I salute this organization. Americans for Immigration Control: I salute this organization. These are two organizations that are trying to do something about this huge problem. The Minuteman Project started a convoy on May 3rd in California that ended in Washington, DC on May 12 to bring awareness to the need to increase spending and have active military involvement on the U.S.-Mexican border, where hundreds of thousands of migrants enter the country illegally each year. When the convoy arrived in the capitol they were met with protesters. Millions of immigrants, mostly Hispanic, have taken to the streets in massive protests to demand greater civil rights in recent weeks. Minutemen founder Jim Gilchrist said such protests underlined the...

Motorcycle Riders Defend Fallen Soldiers from Religious Protesters

See my previous post about Religious Nuts Protesting at Our soldiers Funerals (here's the short version) The protesters from Westboro Baptist Church (based in Kansas) show up at military funerals and protest, with signs and chants saying things like "God loves IEDs" (roadside bombs), and "Thank God for dead troops". The good thing about America is that the best in people comes out at times like this. We give an official salute to the men and, presumably women, who have taken it upon themselves to protect the families of our fallen soldiers from these religious nuts. The following is from the: telegraph.co.uk Bikers on guard at war funerals By Francis Harris in Kokomo Link to Original Article The sound of...
