Tell Congress No rebate checks for illegal aliens... PERIOD!
Alert: When word got out that illegal aliens could receive "rebate checks" from the House-passed version of the proposed Bush stimulus package, House leaders immediately denied it! A spokesman for House Minority Leader John Boehner told the press, "A number of press reports have suggested the economic growth bill passed by the House on Tuesday contains language that would somehow enable illegal immigrants to receive a tax rebate. That is not accurate. The bill includes language similar to the provisions included in the 2001 and 2003 tax relief bills designed specifically to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving benefits."
But Members of the Senate Finance Committee thought otherwise and in an attempt to appease the American people offered a quick fix which requires that anyone eligible for a rebate envisioned in the House measure have to have a valid Social Security number, rather than an Individual Tax Identification Number.
The only problem is this quick fix is no fix at all. According to Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies, there is a "lack of coordination between the IRS and immigration enforcement agencies.... If the IRS was cooperating with Social Security or DHS... they would know who the illegal immigrants are who file tax returns."
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that illegal aliens who are using fraudulent Social Security numbers will not be deterred from collecting rebate checks from a government that is already giving them a ton of freebies and is laissez-faire when it comes to enforcing immigration laws in the first place!
Stop the denials and stop the quick fixes. No rebate checks should go to illegal aliens -- PERIOD! Make it happen!
According to a report in The Hill:
"House leaders sought to squelch rumors Wednesday that economic stimulus checks may end up in the hands of illegal immigrants."
Some nerve, huh?
The report goes on:
"On Wednesday, House Minority Leader John Boehner's (R-Ohio) office stated, 'A number of press reports have suggested the economic growth bill passed by the House on Tuesday contains language that would somehow enable illegal immigrants to receive a tax rebate. That is not accurate. The bill includes language similar to the provisions included in the 2001 and 2003 tax relief bills designed specifically to prevent illegal immigrants from receiving benefits.'
"At press time, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was expected to issue a similar release on the matter."
Then, on Wednesday afternoon, Members of the Senate Finance Committee proposed a "fix" to the bill
But hold your horses. If the bill the House approved already prevented illegal aliens from receiving rebate checks then why did the Senate Finance Committee attempt to "fix" it on Wednesday?
And an even more important question to ask is, did the Senate Finance Committee actually "fix" the bill?
According to Tom Tancredo, the answer is still "NO!"
Here's what FOX News is reporting:
"Colorado Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo, one of the most-vocal anti-illegal immigration voices in Washington didn't appear to take solace in Boehner's argument or the Senate fix...."
"'Whether the total amount of checks cut to illegal aliens from the U.S. Treasury amounts to $600 or $6 billion, I do not believe the American public supports a stimulus package that reinforces the idea that there is really no difference between illegal aliens and American citizens. Worse, given the well documented tendency of illegal aliens to send large portions of their earnings back to relatives in their home country, it is quite possible that the lion's share of any payments sent to illegal aliens will simply be sent abroad -- stimulating a foreign economy rather than our own,' Tancredo wrote."
"Speaking with FOX News, Tancredo complained that the Senate's proposed fix also doesn't address a much greater problem:
"'The fact that we know that Social Security numbers are compromised, the fact that thousands of people, maybe millions of people, we don't know for sure how many people, filed an income tax form with a fake Social Security number. We also know that there's absolutely no communication between the IRS and Social Security Administration,' Tancredo said."
We have a message for our leaders in Congress and we'll keep it real simple.
No rebate checks for illegal aliens... PERIOD!
DO NOT BE SILENCED BY ANYONE STAND UP! MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!
