Military Dumping Injured Soldier's Benefits...

Share/Bookmark

April 24, 2007

We should all be shocked and outraged by this treatment of our injured military personal:
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20070409/kors.

It's a long article that details an investigation into the military tricking injured soldiers into taking a Chapter 5-13 personality disorder for pre-existing condition discharge and thereby loosing their medical benefits... all to save the military money because they don't have to provide medical care to soldiers discharged with a pre-existing personality disorder. Soldiers discharged under Chapter 5-13 can't collect disability pay. Also, if a soldier dismissed under Chapter 5-13 hasn't served out his contract, he has to give back part of his re-enlistment bonus. That amount is often larger than the soldier's final paycheck.

We should do all we can to bring this disgusting treatment out into the public view, to make this common knowledge among as many soldiers as possible, and to pressure our elected officials to bring this before a Congressional investigation.

Sincerely,
Recoil

P.S. I read about this at: http://principledprofit.com/good-business-blog/2007/04/23/forced-psych-disorder-discharges-is-this-how-the-military-support-our-troops-for-shame/

You are right, this is disgusting and should not be happening. Most of us never know exactly how the military treats soldiers, unless someone brings it to light as you have done.

I am outraged, also. I was in iraq and was told that i was being sent back to my duty station for the carpal tunnel syndrome that i have in both of my wrists. I was lied to in a very big way. I got command referraled to mental health where i got diagnosed with a personality disorder and that i was told that i would be put out with an administrative discharge chapter 13 from the army. I was told that it would be an honorable discharge, but i don't have a personality disorder or the money to pay to see a different doctor to get a different diagnosis. I was assaulted while in iraq and are having symptoms of ptsd. I am being screwed all the way around and my hands still haven't been taken care of. I can only hope that i will get sent to a med board for my hands and get some kind of assistance for them.

    From Recoil

    Hello Angry...
Thanks for posting and thanks for your service to our country.
Before you have any type of surgery on your hands/wrist, please get this book: "End Your Carpal Tunnel Pain Without Surgery" by Kate Montgomery. You can order it from her web site at: http://www.sportstouch.com/Products.htm .
I have this book and it works. I had a lot of problems with my wrists and the doctor I was going to wanted to do the surgery. I didn't. I found this book and ordered it. At first I thought I'd been ripped off, but I did the exercises and stretches it shows and after a week or so, could tell a difference. It's not magic, but it helps enough that I don't need the surgery!

    Take care,
    Recoil

    Hello,
I have to agree with everyone on this Chapter 5-13. It is not right how us soldiers are being treated. I was in basic training when i was a chapter 5-13 and i don't have a personalaty disorder either and I have paper work stateing that fact. I have been trying to get back in the Army but because none of my paper work says the same thing we have hit a bump in the road and I think something needs to be done about this because the only reason they are use this to put us out of the military is because they don't want to be botherd with us.

I am so tired of this crap that is going on in the Army with soldiers getting screwed. I am an NCO with 10 years and 3 Combat tours to Iraq and I am facing a Chapter 5-13. If you read anything about the disorder it says that you can only be diagnosed with this disorder starting at the age of 16-17. Well I have been in the Army since I was 17. How is this a pre-existing disorder if I was in the Army when it could be diagnoised? If I do have a personality disorder (which I dont believe I do) then the Army is what gave it to me. They need to stand up and take responsability for what they are doing to us and give us what we have worked for and deserve.

Get over it, most of you should be put out of the Army! Someone of you are probably lucky that the Army is putting you out on this Chapter, at least it is honorable! I am willing to bet that you all have some other legal issues that has gotten you to the Chapter process! Suck it Up and drive on! Dont blame the Army for screwing you over! You screwed yourself over!

Nice post JJ. NOT. Nice try to stir up crap before Christmas. You are definately one of those that are screwing things up in this country and will be on a list of those to be investigated for crimes against america----starting with your personal attack on wounded and injured US military personel.
