THIS IS A DOUBLE BARRELED ALERT! Please read this and then, take action!
Today (May 11, 2006) the Senate reached a new agreement to provide a path for illegal immigrants to become US citizens. Read about the whole mess below.

Don't waste any more time, write, call, email your elected officials and tell them to support the original house bill that makes being an illegal alien a felony and calls for deportation of these criminals. Click here to Contact Your Elected Officials.

Otherwise, this new agreement will probably pass and ALLOW ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO BECOME US CITIZENS.

Today (May 11, 2006) Senate leaders have reached a deal to revive a broad immigration bill that could provide millions of illegal immigrants a chance to become American citizens. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn and Minority Harry Reid, D-Nev. Brokered the agreement that ends the standoff. And, they say they'll try to pass it before Memorial Day.

Last December, the House passed a bill that would subject the estimated 11 or 12 million illegal immigrants in the US to felony charges as well as deportation. This is the Immigration Bill that prompted immigrants and their supporters to hold the May 1st rallies, boycotts, and protests. Immigration Protests of May 1, 2006, A Day without Immigrants, Let's Make it Longer.

"We congratulate the Senate on reaching agreement and we look forward to passage of a bill prior to Memorial Day," said Dana Perino, deputy White House press secretary.

Part of this agreement is who will be negotiating a compromise with the House, Frist said the Senate will send 14 Republicans and 12 Democrats to negotiate with the House, with seven of the Republicans and five Democrats coming from the Judiciary Committee. The remaining seven Republicans will be chosen by Frist and remaining seven Democrats chosen by Reid.

Frist said a "considerable" number of amendments would be debated when the Senate begins debating the bill early next week.

Reid has been criticized for refusing to move forward on the bill saying that Republicans were trying to undermine it.

Critics to the agreement (LIKE ME) consider it to be an "amnesty" program, providing a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants (criminals).

As usual, politics (Presidential and midyear elections) are involved. Frist and Arizona Sen. John McCain, one of the architects of the legalization proposal, are both potential 2008 GOP presidential nominations.

Sen. John McCain and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy D-Mass drafted a bill that this agreement absorbed. That original bill called for allowing illegal immigrants to work toward becoming legal permanent residents.

"Business and labor, Democrats and Republicans, religious leaders and the American people strongly support our plan to strengthen borders, provide a path to earned citizenship for those undocumented workers who are here and put in place a realistic guest worker program for the future," Kennedy said.

Mr. Kennedy and Mr. McCain, You are wrong and I DO NOT AGREE with you!
I'm saying we have to make our voice loud and clear. We have to draw a line and keep America the United States of America. We have to end this constant drain on our resources and our economy.
