Sarah Palin Rally at Elon University, NC

Sarah Palin Rally at Elon University, NC

Sarah Palin Rally at Elon University, NC 10-16-2008

I went to the Sarah Palin rally this afternoon in Elon, NC, my almer mata. Man it was HOT. The event was located on the baseball field with the stage setup on home plate. I was in the crowd on the infield with the sun to our backs. It was packed. We were standing like sardines with the sun blazing down on us. But it was worth it. A local bluegrass band played for a pretty long time as people arrived, they were really good, the Wells Family Band. Then several local and state political figures spoke. Finally Hank Williams Jr. played several songs before Sarah Palin came on stage and then Hank sang the National Anthem. Sarah then delivered her speech. I've never heard people scream as loud as they did when she walked to the stage.

I confess that I've watched several of her speeches, live on-line from foxnews.com, so a lot of what she said I've heard before. But because of the sun, which was shining directly into her face, I'm not sure she could see the teleprompters. She didn't appear to really need them. It seemed that she said a lot of things just off the cuff and adlib. To Elon's credit, the crowd was very respectful. There were a small number of protesters but they remained outside the rally area... except once and as the security guards took him or them away, Governor Palin said "Maybe security should let them stay, maybe they would learn something".

When you see someone in person, you can make judgments about them that are impossible to make via photos or video, little nuance types of things. I was fairly close to the stage and then after the event I was even closer to Governor Palin. She's a genuinely caring person. You can't fake that. You can watch her talk to people and see that she's really interested in them. You can watch the passion she puts into her speech and know that she means every word. And you certainly pickup on the fact that she's no dummy - her intelligence is obvious.

I would say that I don't understand the bad rap she's getting from the main stream media or the Democrats, but I do... she scary smart and they know it. They're really afraid that she'll bring back some degree of morality and decency to Washington and the rest of the country.

I attended the Sarah Palin Rally in Ricmond Va Monday Oct 13, 2008. The feeling there was the same as described in the above article.

I certainly would like for decency and morality to be restored to this country.

It's interesting, my daughter went to the rally at Elon and she was not really impressed. She said that Ms. Palin said basically the same thing McCain said in the debate about how Obama should have run 4 years ago if he wanted to run against Bush, and how we needed to quit looking backwards, and then moments later said, We are going to bring back the Reagan era. So much for not looking backwards. She said there were a couple of other times she contradicted herself in similar ways. She also said that she did excite the crowd, but that she comes across more as a cheerleader than as a stateswoman and that may impress "Joe Sixpack" but she doubts seriously that it will impress other heads of state. She said personally she would love to have a woman President or Vice President, just not this woman.
